Compass Unveils BBVA Branding

By admin • on January 15, 2009

Compass Bank’s familiar gold “C” with radial spoke pattern on a red background looks gone for good. BBVA Group, or Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, if you prefer, is reversing the Compass name on its blue field for now. Even the familiar serif typeface is gone. Presumably, the co-branding will go away once the market becomes adequately aware that BBVA is the new name for Compass.

compass-300The Terminal was on hand this week for the unveiling of the new look at Compass / BBVA’s 20th Street headquarters downtown. The rebranding effort turned heads — Compass’ marketing team dyed the fountain blue to drive home the color association.

Apparently it was cooler Wednesday morning than planned. Perhaps they should’ve issued the execs coordinating blue jackets rather than golf shirts.

For those of you who are fans of banks with red and gold logos, hold your horses. Wells Fargo also launched this week an aggressive campaign to note that it has taken over Wachovia. Longtime Southtrust account holders’ heads must be spinning by now, their bank has changed names so often lately.
